Day 30: Lilly, Ribs and the Stock Yard

We got to visit one of the sweetest, most grateful, spiritual women I have ever met today.  She was Jon’s substitute “grandma” when he was on his mission.  She has the greatest southern accent and was really inspirational talking to her.  She has nothing, NOTHING but was so grateful for what she does have especially life and health and a relationship with Jesus.  She is not a member of our faith but she is truly salt of the earth and someone who Jon has admired and loved and kept in touch with through the years. I was uplifted while visiting her, and re-committed myself to be grateful and thankful for everything I have like she is. We love you Lilly!
Jon was also reunited with Riskys BBQ, where he ate 10 huge ribs.
That is not his real face, Jon is master of looking "special" in pictures on purpose.
We also got to take a stroll through the Botanical Gardens here in Fort Worth, lots of the flowers were wilting… but it was 90 degrees and humid today, so I suppose that is to be expected. We sat by pond and found it was full of turtles!  We started to spit in the water, and more of them came over. We are pretty sure it was because Jon was sucking on a peppermint… but soon we had like 10 of them hanging out near us. We did that until we started getting nervous about contracting West Nile Virus because we did not have on bug spray.
The Fort Worth Stock yard was our next stop.  Most everything was closed, but that made getting these sweet pictures in the middle of the street possible. We might go back during the cattle drive tomorrow.. or maybe for a Rodeo tomorrow night.  Our time here is coming to an end. SO SAD!!
